On Generalizations and Stereotypes

I found this piece by Abd El-Rahman Al-Rashed in a surprising source (Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat). You have to go to the opinion page and find Al-Rashed's piece manually (unfortunately, that's how the page works). It's entitled, wa nahnu mithlu sajjani Abu Ghurayb (we are like the prison guards of Abu Ghurayb).

In it, Al-Rashed cautions his readers not to use the terrible pictures of the Iraqi prisoners to make generalizations about the Americans. After all, Al-Rashed notes, Muslims are asking the same thing from Americans, namely not to equate terrorists and Muslims.

While you're there, also check out his piece on the Fallujah rebels (thuwwar al-Fallujah).
